24 September 2024 (Week 10 Term 3 2024)

Dear St Joseph’s Community

As we approach the end of another busy term, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible efforts of our teachers, staff, and, of course, our students. It has been a term filled with hard work, learning, and growth, and I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication shown by all.

We’re excited to wrap up the term with our Rewards Day, which will feature our much-anticipated Colour Run. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate all that’s been achieved this term, and I know the students are looking forward to it. Parents are most welcome to come and join the fun on Wednesday afternoon.

Well done to our Gift of the Gab students who represented at the Regional Competition on Friday at St Carthages. More details are below.

CANTEEN HELPERS

We are in need of helpers in the canteen. If you have any time on a Wednesday or Friday, Emma would love the extra support. If you’re free, she would love you to email her at emma.thrum@lism.catholic.edu.au

UPCOMING PUPIL-FREE DAYS

Just a quick reminder that this coming Friday is a pupil-free day. This day will be held offsite, and the school will be closed. The phones will not be manned on the day.  The first Monday back next term, Monday, October 14, is our final pupil-free day for 2024. Thank you to parents and carers for your understanding of the need for our staff to engage in professional learning, spiritual formation and training.

TERM 4 DATES

Please see the key dates for Term 4 below.

TERM 1 2025 COMMENCEMENT DATES

For your calendars for the start of 2025, please see the commencement dates below.

REGIONAL SPEAKING COMPETITION

On Friday, 10 students competed in the Zone Gift of the Gab competition against 5 other schools in our region. Students performed a published poem or composed their own speech. We are extremely proud of the representatives from our school, who all did an exceptional job. It was evident in the effort they put into rehearsing and memorising their work. The competition was very tight, and it was difficult for the judges to pick the top three from each stage in each category.

A special congratulations to Nate Cordero, who was awarded 3rd place in the Stage 1 poetry division.

A massive well done to all our finalists; Josie Crook, Piper Crosby, Addison Bambrook, Maddie Layland, Morris Green, Oscar Lamas, Zara Towns, Indy Vu, and Emma Quinlan.

TERM 3 COMMUNITY REWARD DAY: SCHOOL COLOUR RUN

It’s not long now until our colour run on Wednesday, September 25th. Families are invited to join us for the fun! Parents are invited to bring a water pistol, as the water helps the colour stick. Water pistols are only for parents, though, not students. Please follow our usual visitor procedure to sign in at the office.

There will be an obstacle course, water pistols and sprinklers, coloured powder and bubbles. We would love parent help at each of these stations.

Remember to wear: A light/white coloured tshirt, covered shoes and school hat for both break times. Students may change their hat for an old cap and/or sunnies for the colour run.

Remember to pack: Usual lunchbox food, water bottle and towel. Please pack spare clothes as a precaution, however these are necessary if catching the bus home.

Please note, the canteen will run as usual for a Wednesday.

KINDNESS ASSEMBLY

Last Friday, we had a special assembly to celebrate acts of kindness within our community. As we approach the end of the term, our teachers are writing down acts of kindness they have seen or heard our students doing and placing their names in a ‘Kindness Catcher’ in each class. One name from each class will be drawn out just before the colour run, and these students will be able to hit the course first to celebrate! We look forward to sharing some acts of kindness from each class in our next newsletter.
