A worldview influences how we look at everything in life and how we think and act in particular circumstances.
It helps a person answer life questions such as:
- Who am I called to be as a human person?
- Does human life have a purpose?
- How should I relate to others?
- How do I know what is true?
- What happens after death?
- What is important to me?
Each person has a worldview, but as Catholics, ours is founded on the scripture and tradition of our faith, seeing the world through a Christian “lens”. We call this a Catholic Worldview. The Catholic Worldview guides, challenges and directs the life of Catholic Parish schools within the Diocese of Lismore.
In the Diocesan document Foundational Values for Catholic Identity and Mission, six values are articulated for authentic Catholic education and these become embedded in the culture of our school. Since 2013 we have been focusing on how we permeate a Catholic Worldview through our schools, by incorporating faith into all areas of school life, including the curriculum. As teachers planning our programs, we now use the analogy of looking through a “Jesus lens” so that the Catholic Worldview will be permeated throughout all Key Learning Areas.
